How do I upload to my web site?

Uploading to a Web Site Using Core FTP Lite

These setup instructions are for the program Core FTP Lite. To download this free program, click Core FTP Lite.  If using a different FTP program, the screens and fields may look different, but the settings should remain the same.

Please Note: Attempting to upload files to web space using web site editing programs such as Dreamweaver 8 or FrontPage will not work and will result in an error message. Please use an FTP program instead to upload files to web space.

  • Step 1

    Launch the program from the icon on the desktop.

  • Step 2

    Type in a Site Name - The user can anything he or she wants here; this just identifies the account.

  • Step 3

    Type in the Host/ IP/ URL. It will be home.(ISP domain here) ex: home.ispdomain.com

  • Step 4

    Username should be the username@(ISP domain here) ex. user@home.noname.com

  • Step 5

    Password should be the password specified when the web space was setup.

  • Step 6

    Click Connect at the bottom of the window.

  • Step 7

    When connected the user should see two windows. The left window is the files on the computer. The right window are the files on the server under the username.

  • Step 8

    Using the window on the left to browse through the files on the computer until locating the saved the information wanting to uploaded.

  • Step 9

    To transfer the file, double click it, or highlight it with a single left mouse click and then click the arrow above the left window that points to the right.
  • Step 10

    Once the file has been successfully upload, it can be seen in the right window.

  • Step 11

    Once a file named index.html has been uploaded, the user will be able to view the web page by typing the URL in the browser.
